What Gift Ideas For Day is
Finding a good gift is hard, especially when the occasion sneaks up on you. Most "gift ideas" pages online are hundred-item lists padded with whatever an affiliate feed returned. Gift Ideas For Day takes the opposite approach: each guide is a short, hand-picked selection for one specific situation, such as a housewarming, a new dad, a coffee lover, a colleague leaving, or a birthday on a tight budget, with a sentence on why each pick works and who it suits.
The site is organised the way people actually shop for gifts. You can start from the occasion (birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, Christmas, Mother's Day, Father's Day, housewarming, and more), the recipient (partner, parents, kids, friends, coworkers), the interest (cooking, gaming, fitness, travel, gardening) or the price range. If you do not know where to start, the Gift Finder quiz asks a handful of questions and narrows the guides down to the ones that fit the person you are shopping for.
Alongside the guides there is a growing set of gift advice articles on the practical questions people search for, like how much to spend on a wedding gift or what to write in a card, and a gift-giving statistics page that collects verified figures from primary sources for anyone writing about the gifting market.
Every guide, category and article exists in both English and German with localised URLs, so the German edition is a full site rather than a translation layer. Product picks link to Amazon through the Amazon Associates programme, which is how the site earns a small commission at no extra cost to the reader. Picks are chosen editorially first and checked weekly for dead links.
Technologies used in the project
- Next.js 15 with a fully static export, no runtime backend
- React 19 and TypeScript
- Chakra UI
- Content as data: every guide and item is a typed TypeScript object, no CMS, so the build itself validates the content
- Hand-rolled English/German localisation with localised URL segments and a locale-parity check in CI
- Playwright end-to-end tests plus custom verifier scripts that gate every build (locale parity, link health, structured data) and a weekly Amazon link-health check
- GitHub Actions builds the export, publishes a container image to GitHub Container Registry, and rolls it out to a Kubernetes cluster on Hetzner Cloud
- nginx serves the static files, Cloudflare in front
- Sentry for browser error monitoring
